The banner just hit. Do not clear anything yet.
ChatGPT says Memory Full. Don't delete your life.
First save the memory ChatGPT can actually surface to MemoryRouter. Approve every line. Verify the copy. Then clear ChatGPT's built-in memory without losing the memories you saved.
14 days free. $0 today. $20/month after. Cancel anytime.
The trial requires a payment card. MemoryRouter does not expand ChatGPT's built-in memory or copy messages in the background.
Memory Full
ChatGPT memory is full. You can forget existing memories to make space.
Memory Full - ChatGPT memory is full. You can forget existing memories to make space.
Deleting is not relief if the important parts disappear
The banner turns your memories into a hostage negotiation.
Delete the wrong thing and the version of ChatGPT that knows your voice, your work, your people, and your lists can feel gone. Delete carefully and the banner may return days later. These are community voices, not MemoryRouter customer reviews.
“when you do go to the memory bank, you have to sit there and manually delete each, one by one clicking “Delete…Are you sure?..Yes…” for like 30 in a row. just for it to fill up again a day or two later.”
“To anyone reading this, Do not ever clear the chatGPT memory. … My chatGPT actually lost like 20 - 30 IQ points after wiping it’s memory. Special note: Keep a backup log of all your important chats!”
“I’m so upset because I use my Chatty to remember things for me. I have all kinds of lists and all kinds of data that I’ve given it. … I feel like I’ve built a very good relationship with it and it’s very frustrating when that’s just gone.”
Every deletion from ChatGPT's built-in memory is permanent.
Clearing that memory does not create a backup. Save the part ChatGPT can surface somewhere outside the cap first.
The way out
Transfer first. Verify it. Then make room.
MemoryRouter does not make ChatGPT's built-in memory bigger. It gives the approved memories a separate home that the Memory Full banner cannot touch.
Connect MemoryRouter to ChatGPT
Add the MemoryRouter connector to an eligible ChatGPT web account, sign into MemoryRouter, and choose the vault that will hold your memories.
Tell ChatGPT to transfer what it knows
Paste the exact transfer prompt. ChatGPT shows a structured preview first. Edit it, remove anything private or wrong, then approve the exact final version.
Verify, then clear ChatGPT memory
Confirm the approved memories can be found in MemoryRouter. Only then clear ChatGPT's built-in memory. The transferred copy remains in your MemoryRouter vault.
The transfer itself takes about 2 minutes once the connector is set up. It moves what ChatGPT can surface now, not every old conversation.
The one gate to relief
Your vault has to exist before ChatGPT can save to it.
Start the trial first. Then the ChatGPT connector can ask you to sign in and choose the exact MemoryRouter vault where your approved memories will live.

OpenAI currently lists Pro, Plus, Business, Enterprise, and Education accounts on ChatGPT web. Workspace policy and feature rollout can still hide this setting.

Tell ChatGPT to transfer what it remembers
Paste this in the new chat where MemoryRouter is enabled. This is the transfer prompt built for the current connector.
Paste into ChatGPTTransfer what ChatGPT remembers about me to MemoryRouter. List every saved memory and durable context available to this chat, including instructions I have given about how to respond, personal details, projects, goals, recurring topics, tools, languages, frameworks, preferences, and corrections. Preserve my wording where possible. Do not claim access to unseen private chat history. Do not save anything yet. First show me the complete structured preview, flag sensitive information, and let me edit or remove entries. Only after I explicitly approve the final preview, save the approved entries to MemoryRouter and show the actual receipt for each save.
Do not approve the first draft blindly.
- Delete anything wrong, stale, private, or about someone else.
- Edit wording that does not sound like you.
- When the full preview is right, reply: I approve this exact final preview. Save it to MemoryRouter.
- Review ChatGPT's confirmation for each write. Keep the visible accepted and failed results.
- 3
Verify the vault, then clear ChatGPT memory
First, prove that at least one approved detail is in MemoryRouter. Paste this after the save results appear:
Verify before clearingUse MemoryRouter to search for the portable profile I just approved. Tell me my communication preference and one active project from the vault. If nothing is found, say so instead of guessing.
If the detail comes back
Open Settings → Personalization → Memory. Use ChatGPT's delete control to clear its built-in memory. Depending on the view, the full reset may say Clear all or Delete and turn off memory.
If nothing comes back
Stop. Do not clear anything. Check that the saves were accepted and that ChatGPT is connected to the same MemoryRouter vault, then run the search again.
Clearing ChatGPT changes only ChatGPT's built-in memory. It does not delete the verified entries in MemoryRouter. OpenAI notes that past chats are separate, and older chats may create new ChatGPT memories if you turn its memory back on later.
The last reasons to hesitate
Straight answers before you trust the transfer.
How do I know the transfer actually worked?
Do not trust a connected badge or a friendly sentence. Wait for the visible save results, then ask ChatGPT to search MemoryRouter for one approved detail. Clear nothing until that detail comes back from the vault.
This is my journal. What gets sent?
ChatGPT drafts the profile before it writes anything. You can edit or remove every line, and credentials are excluded. Only the exact final entries you approve are sent to the MemoryRouter vault you selected.
Do I have to leave ChatGPT?
No. Keep using ChatGPT. Add MemoryRouter to a new conversation when you want it to recall your saved profile. The same vault can also be connected to Claude and other supported MemoryRouter integrations.
Why pay another $20?
ChatGPT Plus pays for ChatGPT. MemoryRouter pays for a separate memory vault that is not trapped inside ChatGPT's built-in cap. Start with 14 days free and verify the transfer before the first charge.
The banner does not get the final word
Save the part that knows you. Then clear the cap.
Start the vault today. Transfer what ChatGPT can surface. Approve it. Verify it. Then make room without losing the memories you saved.
